true vintage

last weekend i went to visit my parents after a long time - disgustingly busy - and while i searched my mom's closet for clean sheets i found in the back of it two amazing warm sweaters she knitted in the early 80s. and five more she just had back than.
better than shopping, perfect for the weather.
gonna cuddle myself crazy.

let's make it a very happy new year,

hibernation

lately i find myself staying indoors a lot, preferring a sewing machine over people or just winter lazy. i had to come up with ideas how not to spend my hours at home exclusively inside a blanket, to feel more productive and generally not surrender my will to sleep like a bear.

step one: trying to find inspiration between the four walls. whether it is re-decorating or planning to, finding interesting things on the internet, and even when spending time in front of the tv, trying not to feel bad about it by watching stuff that opens my mind. a good documentary channel and MGM channel are usually my first choice. MGM movies inspire me by the way they are filmed, the acting and the costumes, and the general look of things, especially if it's black and white. a good comedy is what i end a long day at work with (Parks and Recs. definitely), and basically i just try to avoid the urge to "empty my brain" because i guess that's not what a brain is for.

step two: a schedule and lists. most of the times i do things the messy spontaneous way, which is fun but i get lost a lot. even when i feel stupid writing a to-do-list, as i cross out what was done it feels like a small victory over laziness and gives motivation. also keeps me from getting caught in my own world believing i have all the time i want, what usually happens.

step three: failing to do anything else, clean and tidy. helps thinking better and feels like an accomplishment. to me, anyway, a huge one. the environment gets nicer and the ideas do too.

step four: house party. not necessarily a big one. inviting friends, cooking some, drinking some more. the warmest feeling.

step five: leaving the house! it is still not that cold so we should take advantage of it as long as possible. besides, it's still the middle east, people who come here from Europe think it's swimming season.

hopefully i'll get over the cuddling desire.
